COMPREHENSIVE REPORT ON NIGERIAN COUNSELOR VISIT TO EMU

As a usual routine, the Nigerian Counselor to Turkey and Head of Mission paid a visit to the Eastern Mediterranean University. He came along with 91 international passports renewed for Nigerian Students which collection is still ongoing. The Counselor and the Head of Mission were welcomed at the Ercan International Airport by the NSS President in company of members of his cabinet and representatives from the University.

In a dinner organized in honor of the guests from the Nigerian Embassy Ankara by the University with attendance of the Rector, Vice Rector, Registrar, international office representatives and the NSS President, the embassy spoke on difficulties involving renewal of international passports, issues of BVN and safety of Nigerian Students residing in North Cyprus.

On international passport renewal, the Counselor explained than an official request was made to the Nigerian government for electronic device and machine to enable the embassy in Ankara renew passports for her citizens residing in turkey and its environs, he went further to say that the request was approved, hence prompt responses shall be given to issues relating to passports as soon as the machine arrive the Embassy in December ending or early January.

The Counselor after duly considering the request made by the NSS President on complains relating to passport collection, went further to say, those with cases of missing old or expired passports, police reports or any case preventing them from getting their renewed passports should be allowed to collect their passport if necessary documents are provided.

*Some people have contacted the NSS leadership on cases of their renewed passports already produced but not reaching to them for a long time now, please kindly submit a letter to the NSS office at BE169 to this effect, stating your name, passport number, application date etc. so we can do our best to track them.

On BVN Registration, the embassy spoke through the Counselor, that it has received considerably high number of BVN issues from the recent lists of affected persons sent to them from various tertiary institutions in North Cyprus, he said the embassy was expecting representatives to handle BVN issues shortly before the misunderstanding between Turkey and Russian, the private company suspended their trip to avoid been caught up in any form of crisis but promised that immediately things normalizes all BVN issues will be put to rest. Though affected students are going to incur cost on the BVN registration but NSS is still in negotiations to make this cost students friendly.

In conclusion, the Counselor promised to work and develop more working relationship with the government of North Cyprus, EMU and the leadership of the Nigerian Students Society EMU to ensure the safety of all Nigerians on the island and protect their interests.
